When I first went to the drydock it had a weird collection of plugs and sockets going back a hell of a long time It included some 4 pin 16A Commandos one 32A 5pin Commando a couple of Vinkniers (? think that's the spelling) and one really weird one I think was Soviet. I standardised it to all commando 5pin mostly 16A with a few 32A for a couple of bigger machines.
That means any machine can be moved and plugged into any correct rating socket KISS principle .... important especially where welders are concerned

Standard in my old industry for 3 phase was 32amp 5pin and 16amp 4pin depending on use. 32>16 adapters were a no no from me.

Standard in my old industry for 3 phase was 32amp 5pin and 16amp 4pin depending on use. 32>16 adapters were a no no from me. A lot of modern equipment (inverter welders for example) that require 3 phase 16A need a neutral to supply 240v for the electronics, so having 4 pins around would be a pita. All 4pins will work off a 5 pin so in my book it is daft to have 4 pins around. Much better to standardise on 5 pins for everything. Which is what they have there. Mostly 16A. From memory there are 3 at 32A and they are getting one 63A installed at some point (for running a big tug on shore power)

We used 4 pins for chain hoists and other motor stuff, after a controller, some you wouldn't want to plug into an energised socket as they will run straight away, hence the use of 4pin.

Today I have finished installing a 230volt 100amp auto change over contactor in the house, it transfers the freezers, downstairs ring main and upstairs lights to run from the EPS output on the solar inverter. When we have power cuts provided there is charge in the battery bank I will still have heating and light.

well great progress !!! I have now reached that stage of improvements where I have ....... None of the original central heating system working None of the new central heating system working None of the solar panel system working No inverter 240v supplies working No generator connection only shore mains If the shore power goes it'll be candles (got plenty of logs in for the woodburner tonight ) Got the wooden panel cut and varnished, hopefully get that bit finished tomorrow ..... that will still only be the original sections running again . not any of the new bits but the wiring/switches and control circuits for everything should be there then SAM_3847 by mudlarker, on Flickr
