Yesterday I was building the frame for the wardrobe and getting on quite well
Had all the sections cut and pre-drilled and started assembly using clamps and no glue just to check.
When I clamped it all up I found that one of the uprights was a bloody corkscrew
Eying it up for straightnes it seemed ok but when I tried it. the twist was obvious.
I wondered about just forcing it intpo place and glueing and screwing.
After considering how much time and aggro it would cause if it didn't pull square and looked naff
I decided to replace it (needless to say it was the last bit of wood with those dimensions that I had in store)
This morning, shot off up the road and bought a new bit and by breakfast time had the new part cut and the brackets made and glued up.
It's all now glued and screwed together and installed.
It's 8mm deeper at the bottom than the top on the side panel and 10mm higher on the window side ......
It's spot on .... coz it looks square (it doesn't look square when it is) old boat syndrome.
I have been going through my ply trying to find a piece that will do the side of the wardrobe in one piece
I really don't want a join in it .... I reckon it allways looks a bit off, however good the join is
everything was either too short, too narrow or had a large hole or a row of screw holes in it.
I went right through the stack of both offcuts of the new ply I have bought and the remnants of the ply I saved from the rip out
The very last bit of ply in the stack was just long enough and the row of screw holes could be trimmed off and still leave plenty of width.
Was very amused to see written on the back of the panel, my signature and the date it was originally installed
exactly 22 years, 2 months and 1 day ago !!!
