telemachus you certainly are getting some good results with that printer .... it's certainly helped you produce some DIY that looks like production run !!!

Quite a steep learning curve with Fusion 360 (CAD programme) and the finer points of driving the 3D printer, but I’ve now got a good enough grasp of both. Well for Fusion 360 I probably understand about 1%, but that is enough for simple things.

No switches bought from RS, about £3 a pop. 3D printing is quite good but there are limits both on fine detail and on the construction - really you need to start with the widest bit at the bottom, and it needs to be flat. You can have some overhang but more than about 45deg needs supports. If you have a dual head printer you can print supports with the other head, using a water soluble material which you then wash away afterwards. But I just have a single head printer. Plus of course if you want to have bits of switch hinge etc, the fine detail all has to be designed on Fusion 360 and that is probably beyond me!

Interesting, when switches fall apart there doesn't seem to be much to them. A 3D printer is behind a router as one of those things I think I need but wouldn't know what I would do with it if I had one.

I got the 3D printer when I discovered I couldn’t cut a neat square hole in an aluminium case for a small OLED display. I needed a bezel. You can get them on eBay for A TENNER!😱 Well to be honest the full story is that I went to retrieve a glider pilot who had landed in a field at Tomintoul (look it up). He was flying an SHK (look it up) whose registration was DTG. Hmm familiar.., yes that is the same SHK I used to own in the early 1980s. Anyway he had a 3D printed fancy box for his FLARM system (look it up). A lengthy chat about 3D printers and Fusion 360 ensued. In a field in the Highlands covered in sheep shit. (Sheeps had gone away, fortunately). So a while later I bit the bullet. Many YouTube tutorial videos later I had some vague idea about Fusion360. More Youtube videos and I understood how to get reasonable results out of the printer. And then I realised I couldn’t live without it!

So at the end of last year I bought a VW LT46 LWB minibus! We have been campervaning a number of years but last year nearly had our second awning destroyed by bad weather! The upshot was we need a bigger campervan, after looking for a while it became obvious that anything any good was more than I wanted to pay and often didnt really have what we wanted, so I bought a minibus that was low mileage and in better condition than the van equivalent! Its had the seats removed has a diesel heater, had new engine in 2019 and generally is in good condition, its lined with stretch carpet from the factory and everything works. Now its having a fixed bed in the stern with under storage and 2 kennels accessible from inside, toilet and sink in a compartment, wardrobe and a kitchen, I fancy a 2 seater settee because it can be moved out when I use it as a van! I am buying stuff for it already but need it finished for March, it also has to be changed to a minibus on the registration document which helps with the increasing ULEZs springing up allover. I have done these conversions before but not on something as big as this. it cost 2.5k and I am hoping that I can do the conversion for about 5k all in

well in my engine room I have done Sweet Fanny Adams since I came back (apart from a quick look to make sure it was still there ) funny, when you come home after a couple of weeks away, how much laundry you suddenly need to do !!! Just didn't feel like starting today ...... if I feel like it, I might start with some more of the wiring tomorrow If I don't, I won't I refuse to start putting myself under pressure to finish like before Christmas ...... now when it's done, it's done

There are lots available at various prices, I suspect that they are all 3D printed.

Spent the day looking at electrical jobs* I want to do on the boat, working out the way forward. Think I'm there just got to order stuff now.
* more remote monitoring and putting in extra main fuses where needed.

There’s a website called Thingiverse where you can download lots of designs for stuff to be printed. www.thingiverse.com/search?q=Ring+doorbell&page=1&type=things&sort=relevant

Serious day on the marina yesterday, CRT ‘snatch squad’ lifting out a 40ft non mover and a 23ft yogurt pot non payer… Perhaps issues requiring Mr Dunkley’s input to ensure the boaters never see their boats again?🙄

Sad to see boats going to wherever they go...
