Just read this on the L&L fb page… Whats your thoughts on it or fishermen in general?
This is a polite notice to the boating community, from an angler. When approaching an angler, please slow down, and stay in the “middle” of the canal. Many boaters that I speak to, think that they are doing the angler a favour, by travelling down the far bank. This is absolutely the worst thing you can do!!! There is no depth on that side, and your boat just digs up all the silt and completely ruins that swim for the angler. He will have put a lot of very expensive bait/ground bait in, and that will be dispersed all over the canal. Same thing happens if you simply plough through his swim, without slowing down. The worst culprits are the hire boats, but not always. I must say though, there are plenty of experienced boaters that are lovely people and very respectful to us anglers. I always thank them and wish them well. As the canal is being promoted as a leisure facility for all, I think it is beholden to all of us to try to respect each other, and behave accordingly.
Best regards

Best regards My thoughts are that it’s a reasonable and sensible request. That’s how I pass anglers anyway.

After 200 or so years of canals I guess the fish in them couldn't care less where the boat's are or what they're doing ... they're simply a fact of life like ducks and the weather.
But it's polite to treat others with respect even if they're fishing, model boating or paddle boarding.
Room for us all 👍

I do try and avoid anglers if I can but on this river they seem to have a propensity to hide in the undergrowth spotting a rod tip against the river is damned near impossible and if you do see it it's normally too late to do anything Going down stream to Hull a couple of years ago I came round a bend in the river at one of the extremely narrow sections There were a couple of fishermen trying to remove rods etc (actually trying to bend the tips over so they didn't get broken off Screaming alternately "slow down and get to the other side." As regards get to the other side, at that point the river is only about 20 foot wide and Sabina is sixteen and a half foot beam as regards slow down .... fat chance, I was running with the ebb at tickover, just enough speed to keep steerage a certain degree of common sense is needed from both sides

The letter is polite and respectful.
I bet their are some boaters that don't reply the same.

The joy of the River Nene is they don't seem to care if you slow down or not, I just stay in the middle and carry on as normal. I guess its all to do with the depth if water. River still on SSA

Most of the anglers on The Union Canal seem a pretty decent bunch. I always go to the centre, though to be honest with the state of the canal it's not worth risking going near the bank.

Fair enough, but I note there is no apology for fishing off lock moorings. I met several on the L&L that were very tardy in shifting their gear.
