Looks like we'll get afloat next month ... well towards the end of the month.
I'm aware that restrictions have already been imposed on the Bosley and Marple flights due to the ongoing reservoir works.
I wondered how the water levels were doing up there and if the restrictions were affecting boat traffic ... anyone up there ?

GRRRR AS for Macclesfield, After I get back of the Caldon on Good Friday, I've to race through the tunnel to get up Bosley on Saturday (neither Bosley or Marple locks are "open" on Fridays to 'conserve water' - read concentrate the depletion into 2 days rather than 3 OR mean they can save money running the pumps from the Goyt... either way it's a crock of shit what is it now- 3 years on? I'll report back on the mac (as far as Macclesfield by Easter Monday as that's my planned arrival there) and I've got a week to gently meander up to Bugsworth to collect trip 3 YESTERDAY I came up from Stone in 5 hours single handed with all locks against me which wasn't actually bad... the sun was out and apart from the pain in the arse 'helper' with his own windlass on a bike, I enjoyed the trip... RATHER pleased I did it yesterday though as today it's raining and looks set in for the week. NOTE to self, the bit after Festival park/Toby Carvery isn't the best place to over night cause a) There's a ledge and b) local scrotes seem to walk slowly and noisly down the tow path in the dark with loud music playing. Later today after I've been to the cinema to see "something", I'll move on to Westport lake for a couple of days. tally ho

Quick update as to conditions up here:
Lower Macc - no problems at all... usual shallow bits under bridges but nothing to get stuck on.
AFTER Bosley queue chaos, things ok until AFTER Macclesfield... no notable lack of depth until heading OUT of Macclesfield towards Bollington... quite a few bits there when moving over a little for an on-coming boat ended with boats being stuck in the mud - I only went (todate) as far as the winding hole AFTER Bollington (rather than the wharf) and it was no worse there than usual.
I'm now only going as far as Marple before turning left on the Lower Peak forest - Marple lock flight opening times mean that going into Bugsworth, only to come back and then hang around a whole day in Marple waiting for Sundays opening times made would make it a rush to get to Standedge tunnel in time... ergo, I've brought departure on Thursday forward to Marple go get down the flight and then have a more leisurely journey to Portland and on to the HNC.

Right - I made it to Marple yesterday... a side from the usual lack of mooring spaces (btw, i turned round in the junction and came back to just after bridge 4 near the golf course, bashed pins in and deployed my vectra spare wheels) and I've got loads of TV channels and 20mbps up and down internet - which I need for for zoom meetings Mon and Wed) All is well.
The services have gone (houses currently being built where they were - a temporary TAP however has been reinstated (possibly to assist the charity boat there) but no elsan/rubbish. Elsan down stream available at Bollington Wharf and bins at Poynton.
As for water levels - whilst I'm now not going up to Buggy, i can honestly say no different to normal. .... just convoys of boats having to arrive at honey spots at the same time due to the bottle-necking of Bosley and Marple flights.
The End.

I understand a new service block is being built as part of the development at Marple ... we shall see.

in fairness there does appear to be something built - it's probably a social room for the volunteers lol
btw - have you spotted NEW lock opening from 25th April?
Bosley Sundays and thursdays only (until 1.00)
Marple Tuesday and Saturdays only (last entry noon)

Yes ... grim isn't it ... and apparently restrictions are to continue until the end of reservoir works in 2025.

I was having a lovely chat with a volunteer bloke yesterday on the flight - he said keeping them chained shut is pointless too... 4 boats were going down, only 1 single hander going up so every lock until about lock 4 had to be turned 4 times anyway. given some fill up on their own, the 4 going down might just have taken 'leakage' with them had they been 'allowed' to make their journey naturally without big brother controlling them.

Unless the restrictions put some off visiting a particular canal, they rarely seem to make a significant difference. All they actually seem to do is make the accessible hours busier (the same traffic, but in a shorter time frame). But we're stuck with the Bosley and Marple restrictions until the reservoirs are back in action. On the plus side for C&RT I suppose, very few are on deadlines like yourself quaysiderRog
